What is The Golden Ratio?
The Golden Ratio represented by the Greek letter 𝝓 (phi), also known as the Golden Section, Golden Mean or Divine Proportion is a number that approximately equals 1.618.
The Greeks first studied the Golden Ratio because of its frequent appearance in geometry.
How does this relate to spoon design?
You can find The Golden Ratio almost anywhere, in nature, architecture, painting and music.
When applied, it creates aesthetically pleasing and well balanced proportions.
You can find the Golden Ratio when you divide a line into two parts and the longer part (a) divided by the smaller part (b) is equal to the sum of (a) + (b) divided by (a), which both equal 1.618 (phi). Confused enough?
Take a square and multiple one side by 1.618. You’ll get a new shape, a rectangle. The relationship between the square and the rectangle will give you the Golden Ratio. Have a look at the second image and see how the different circles or squares relate to each other.
