This tree was planted by Tim Hutton, founder of the Wild Circle Retreat in Cornwall over 25 years ago. The tree was felled as part of a woodland management plan to thin out an overcrowded area of woodland. The Wild Circle Retreat hosts craft courses and nature connection retreats on the edge of the River Camel. More info here
The spoon was carved from a beautiful Beech tree, and I’ve dubbed in a shovel spoon as it does exactly what it says on the tin. It has a finesse to it too, with faceted handle and finial. The spoon has been burnished and oiled with linseed oil giving it a wonderful gleaming finish
This spoon is designed to be eaten with and well used – don’t be afriad to use it on a daily basis! The only thing to avoid is putting it in the dishwasher, or leaving it to soak in the washing up bowl. I always make sure my spoons are bone dry before putting them away in the drawer. To give the spoon a new lease of life from time to time you can add a coat of flax oil, walnut oil (careful of nut allergies) or linseed oil, but this is not essential.
