Karvsnitt – Skära Mönster i täljda föremål
Carving patterns and symbols in wood is a folk tradition that is still kept alive in handicrafts. Throughout history, chip carving has been used to add meaningful decoration to craft objects. Even today, the carving technique is a natural extension of a handcrafted spoon, cutting board or shrinking jar – and a way to develop creativity and pattern making.
The book describes techniques for odd cuts, nail cuts, lines and letters, as well as the kind of wood, knives and tools you need to get started. The book includes 15 projects, from simple decorations of knife handles and signs to more challenging items such as boxes and combs. As well as providing practical knowledge, the book opens the door to older crafts and folk art and gives a detailed description of the traditional meanings of the symbols.
Jögge Sundqvist is a professional carver and wood worker with 40 years of experience in pattern making.
He addresses both beginners and more experienced craftsmen and has previously written the books Slöjda i trä and Tälj för kök och trädgård.
Note: The book is written in Swedish.
