Smaller gouge I use as a replacement for adze work.
I prefer them over adzes because I have more control over the blade movement. Use it with a combination of a wooden or rubber hammer and struck it.

It’s forged from spring steel. The socket is not forge welded, the edge is quenched and tempered. The handle is ground into shape, beaten into the socket, no glue or epoxy used.
