Lydia Latham

United Kingdom

I fell in love with spoon carving over a decade ago. At the time I was completing an Embroidery degree and found exploring a brand new medium, green wood, very inspiring. I learnt the craft from my now mother in law, Jo Alexander, and have developed my process and found my own style.
Today I have several spoon shapes and designs that people associate with me, for example, my take on the “dolphin spoon”. However, I am probably more known for my kolrosing. I have always had an affinity with drawing, and combining this with spoon carving has led me to many oceans of inspiration. I have so many ideas waiting to be explored, a journey I will be sharing soon.
I live and work in North Wales on the edge of Snowdonia. This harsh-beautiful landscape, filled with wildlife and looming mountain profiles, can’t help but inspire. My style is ever evolving with the influences of my surroundings, fellow spoon carvers, and other artists and designers.
