I am from Northwestern Ontario Canada. I carved my first spoon at the age of 16 with only a folding knife and had no idea that 30 years later this craft would become something that i feel the need to do everyday.
This “obsession”, as my wife may refer to it, has really become serious over the last 7 years as i have continually tried to improve my skills and acquire knowledge from carvers around the world.
I am a high school Outdoor Education teacher by profession which means that spooncarving is very much connected to my love of bushcraft and the outdoors. I am very fortunate to live in an area where wilderness and lakes are right out my door and forests of birch provide all the materials i will ever need for craft.
I carve spoons without templates and enjoy the process of designing each spoon based on what appeals to me at the time or what suits the wood the best.
I appreciate the opportunity to get to share my love of spooncarving with you in this way.
You can follow my carving journey on Instagram @beenercraft – feel free to send my a message if there is a style of blank you specifically would like me to make for you.
Cheers and happy carving.
