The Sloyd Blade by The Spoon Crank, is made of D2 steel and it measures 90mm. It features a scandi grind at 25º degrees which is ideal for wood carving.
D2 steel, sometimes known as a “semi-stainless” steel, is a high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel known for its air-hardening properties. It boasts excellent wear and abrasion resistance, making it a popular choice for various industrial applications. D2 steel can achieve a hardness ranging from 55 to 62 HRC. Thanks to its high chromium content, D2 steel also provides mild corrosion resistance.

I will typically use two knives for all of my carving: one for roughing out the spoon and one for finishing cuts. This blade has been fantastic for roughing out all of my spoons. It has handled tough material like black walnut and elm without much wear and tear to the edge, leaving little work for my finer finishing knife after things have dried further. I’ve been impressed with how well it holds up and the length is perfect for my needs. For such an inexpensive blade, this has been more than what I expected
